5011

Case IH 5011 – Rear PTO Module: Rear PTO 5011 Driver is on and no current is sensed.

Issue description

This code indicates an open circuit condition. The control module is actively commanding the Rear PTO solenoid valve to turn ON, but the system detects zero electrical current flowing through the circuit. This typically means there is a broken wire, a disconnected or corroded connector, or the internal coil of the Rear PTO solenoid has failed (blown/open).

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Steiger T4B
  • Magnum 210
  • Magnum 220
  • Magnum 235
  • Magnum 245
  • Magnum 260
  • Magnum 290

  • Magnum 380
  • Puma Series
  • Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the Rear PTO solenoid valve (located on the rear left-hand top of the transmission or PTO housing), wiring harness, and 2-pin electrical connector (X-278, X-287, or X-159).

  2. Check the solenoid connector for disconnected, backed-out, or heavily corroded pins.

  3. Perform a coil resistance test: Disconnect the harness from the Rear PTO solenoid and measure resistance across the two pins. Infinite resistance (OL) indicates a blown/open internal coil.

  4. Perform a harness continuity test: If the solenoid tests within normal resistance specs, check the wiring harness for continuity between the solenoid connector and the ATC/Rear PTO controller to find pinched or broken wires.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, lower all implements, and remove the key to ensure the circuit is completely de-energized.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Access the rear transmission/PTO housing and locate the Rear PTO solenoid valve.

  3. Disconnect and Remove

Unplug the electrical connector. If the diagnostic tests proved the solenoid is dead, clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system, then unbolt/unscrew the faulty solenoid valve.

  4. Install New Solenoid

Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean hydraulic fluid. Install the new valve and torque it to OEM specifications.

  5. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If the solenoid was good but the connector was faulty, splice in a new 2-pin pigtail connector using weather-sealed heat-shrink butt connectors.

  6. Reassemble and Clear Codes

Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn the key on, clear the inactive fault codes via the cab monitor, and test the Rear PTO engagement to verify the repair.
