Case IH 5012 – Armrest Controller / EDC PROC: Rear PTO shift - sensor error
Issue description
The control module is receiving an out-of-range, missing, or erratic signal from the Rear PTO Shift Position Sensor (B025).
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- Case IH Puma Series
- Case IH Magnum Series
- Case IH Maxxum Series
Check the cause
Visually inspect the Rear PTO Shift Position Sensor (B025), connector (X262), and wiring harness for physical damage, moisture, or corrosion.
Test the 3-wire circuit for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to voltage (Pin 1: Sensor Ground, Pin 2: +5V Reference, Pin 3: Actuator Position Signal).
Monitor the live potentiometer reading of the PTO shift sensor in the diagnostic menu (H Menu). A static reading or constant 0V/5V while the actuator moves indicates a dead sensor or wiring short.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, remove the key, and engage the parking brake. Relieve any hydraulic pressure if you are working near the PTO hydraulic valves.
Disconnect Battery
Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Remove the Sensor
Disconnect the electrical harness connector (X262) from the Rear PTO Shift Position Sensor (B025). Unbolt and carefully remove the sensor from the PTO shift actuator housing.
Install New Sensor
Install the replacement sensor into the housing, ensuring it properly aligns with the shift actuator mechanism. Secure the mounting bolts.
Reconnect Wiring
Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor. Ensure the locking tab clicks into place.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position. Enter the diagnostic menu to clear fault code 5012. You may need to perform a Rear PTO Shift Calibration procedure so the controller can learn the new sensor's end-stop voltage limits.
Test Operation
Start the tractor and cycle the rear PTO speed selector to verify smooth shifting without the error code returning.
