Case IH 5013 – Rear PTO Control Module: Engine speed is too low for the PTO to be in the 'on' state.
Issue description
The tractor's control software detects that the Power Take-Off (PTO) switch is engaged (in the ON position), but the engine speed is at 0 RPM or below the minimum threshold required to run the PTO. This is most commonly an operational state code rather than a mechanical failure, triggered when the engine stalls out under load or is manually shut down by the operator without first disengaging the PTO switch.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- Magnum
- Steiger T4B
- Case IH Magnum series
- Case IH Steiger series
- Case IH Puma series
- Case IH Maxxum series
- Case IH MX series
Check the cause
Verify if the tractor recently stalled or was shut off while an implement was still engaged (Operator Error Check).
Inspect the physical condition of the PTO cab switch. Ensure it clicks firmly into the OFF position and is not physically jammed or stuck closed.
Turn the key to the ON position and start the engine. Verify that the dash is displaying the correct engine RPM. If the dash shows 0 RPM while the engine is running, the engine speed sensor may be faulty.
Repair steps
Place the PTO switch in the OFF position.
Place the PTO switch in the OFF position.
Restart the engine.
Restart the engine.
Erase stored fault codes.
Access the tractor's diagnostic menu or use an Electronic Service Tool to erase all stored fault codes.
Test PTO operation.
With the engine running at a safe idle, test the operation of the PTO by turning the switch ON, then OFF.
Check if fault code returns.
Check if the fault code returns. If the code does not return, the issue was simply a stall or improper shutdown.
Replace PTO switch if necessary.
If the code immediately returns and the switch feels physically broken or fails a continuity test (stuck closed), proceed to replace the PTO switch in the cab armrest or side console.
