Case IH 5015 – Rear PTO: The software has not detected PTO shaft speed for greater than 3 seconds since the PTO initial fill vale was commanded.

When the operator engages the PTO, the control module sends an electrical command to the PTO initial fill valve to hydraulically engage the PTO clutch. The system monitors the PTO speed sensor to verify the shaft is spinning. If the sensor reports zero RPM for more than 3 seconds after the command is sent, the system logs this fault, pointing to an electrical, hydraulic, or mechanical failure.

   Inspect the PTO speed sensor and wiring harness for rubbed wires, corrosion, or swapped wiring. Test sensor resistance and signal output.

   Check the initial fill valve solenoid for proper resistance and ensure it receives 12V power when the PTO switch is engaged.

   Perform a hydraulic pressure test by installing a gauge on the PTO clutch test port to verify pressure reaches the clutch pack.

   Inspect the PTO clutch pack mechanically if electronics and hydraulics are functioning properly.

   Prepare tractor for repair

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent short circuits.

   Clean repair area

   Clean the area around the rear PTO housing and the PTO control valve assembly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Replace PTO Speed Sensor

   Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the retaining bolt holding the sensor in the housing. Pull the old sensor straight out. Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with clean hydraulic oil, insert it into the port, and secure it with the retaining bolt.

   Replace PTO Fill Valve / Solenoid

   Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the system. Disconnect the solenoid wiring harness. Remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem and slide the coil off. If the mechanical cartridge valve is faulty, unscrew it from the valve block.

   Replace O-rings and install valve/solenoid

   Replace any worn O-rings on the valve cartridge (e.g., the 0.551" ID and 0.755" ID O-rings) before installing the new valve/solenoid. Torque the cartridge and coil nut to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect electrical components

   Reconnect all wiring harnesses and the battery.

   Test and clear fault code

   Start the tractor, navigate to the diagnostic menu to clear the stored 5015 fault code, and engage the PTO to verify the shaft spins and the speed is detected without throwing a code.
