Case IH 5018 – CCH / ATC: Rear PTO - PTO speed sensors wiring swapped (CCH Only)

Issue description

The controller has detected that the electrical connectors for the rear PTO speed sensors (or the speed sensor and the shaft size sensor) have been plugged into the wrong receptacles.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Case IH Magnum Series (215, 235, 240, 245, 250, 260, 275, 280, 290, 305, 310, 315, 335, 340, 380)
  • Case IH MX Series (MX180 through MX285)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness at the rear PTO housing. Look specifically at the two connectors going to the PTO speed sensors.

  2. Determine if the tractor recently had the PTO housing serviced, sensors replaced, or the rear wiring harness disconnected. This fault is almost always caused by human error during reassembly.

  3. Check the wiring harness for any stretched wires, chafing, or broken pins that might have occurred if the harness was forced into the wrong configuration.

Repair steps

  1. Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and remove the key.

  2. Locate the rear PTO speed sensors on the rear PTO housing.

  3. Disconnect the wiring harness connectors from both PTO speed sensors.

  4. Swap the connectors.

Plug the connector that was in Sensor A into Sensor B, and vice versa.

  5. Ensure both connectors click firmly into place and that the wiring is not stretched or rubbing against moving PTO components.

  6. Turn the tractor's ignition on and clear the 5018 fault code.

Use the tractor's diagnostic menu or a CAN-Bus DTC eraser tool to clear the fault code.

  7. Start the tractor and engage the rear PTO.

Verify that the shaft speed is reading correctly on the cab monitor and that the fault code does not return.
