Case IH 5021 – Rear PTO Controller / Armrest Controller / Cab Controller Hub (CCH): Rear PTO Auto PTO disabled (CCH Only)
Issue description
This code indicates that the Auto PTO (Power Take-Off) function has been disabled by the system. The underlying condition is typically a safety lockout or a signal failure preventing the Auto PTO from engaging, often related to switch states, interlocks, or a fault in the armrest controller communication.

Check the cause
Verify the PTO switch is not in the ON position when the engine is off.
Check for accompanying active Rear PTO codes (e.g., 5003, 5004, 5007, 5008) that might force the Auto PTO to disable.
Physically inspect the Auto PTO switch on the armrest/cab console for sticking, physical damage, or debris preventing normal operation.
Test the wiring harness connecting the Auto PTO switch to the Cab Controller Hub for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to 12V power.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor engine, remove the key, and allow the CAN-bus system to power down completely.
Access the Switch
Carefully remove the trim panel on the armrest console or dashboard to access the back of the Auto PTO switch.
Disconnect and Inspect
Unplug the electrical connector from the switch. Inspect the pins for corrosion, bent terminals, or moisture.
Test the Switch
Using a digital multimeter, test the switch for proper continuity in both the engaged and disengaged positions. If the switch is internally shorted (stuck ON) or shows an open circuit when engaged, it has failed and must be replaced.
Test the Circuit
If the switch tests good, probe the harness back to the CCH module to ensure there are no broken wires or shorts to ground. Repair any damaged wiring.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Install the new switch (or re-plug the existing one if repairing a wire), reassemble the console, and power on the tractor. Use the tractor's integrated diagnostic menu (ECR/Live mode) or a CAN-bus diagnostic tool to clear the stored fault codes.
Operational Test
Start the engine and test the Auto PTO function to verify the repair and ensure code 5021 does not return.
