Case IH 5022 – Rear PTO control module / Armrest Controller: Rear PTO Switch Detected ON While Engine is Off

Fault code 5022 indicates that the Rear PTO switch is detected in the 'ON' position while the engine is turned off. This is a safety and logic mismatch, as the system expects the PTO switch to be disengaged when the tractor is not running.

   Verify if the PTO switch was simply left in the physical 'ON' position by the operator after shutting down the engine.

   Test the switch power states using a multimeter. When ON, expect 12V at armrest controller C054 pin 5 and TCU C065 pin 29. When OFF, expect 12V at armrest controller C054 pin 6 and TCU C066 pin 10.

   Check the wiring harness between the PTO switch and the armrest controller for any shorts to power (B+) or ground.

   Turn the PTO switch to the OFF position

   If the code clears, no further repair is needed.

   Test and replace the PTO switch

   If the code persists, disconnect the PTO switch and test it for internal short circuits. If the switch power is not as expected during the voltage tests (e.g., it sends 12V to the ON pin even when physically switched OFF), the switch is internally shorted and must be replaced.

   Inspect and repair wiring

   Inspect and repair any damaged wiring or connectors at the armrest controller (C054) and the TCU (C065/C066).

   Update software

   If the switch and wiring test perfectly but the code remains, OEM service documentation recommends updating the software for the armrest controller.
