Case IH 5023 (4052.06) - DEC – Tractor Control Unit (TCU): PTO clutch lube solenoid circuit is shorted to B+

The PTO clutch lube solenoid circuit is shorted to B+ (battery voltage) when the PTO is in the off state. The system detects that voltage is being supplied to the solenoid when it should be unpowered.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the Tractor Control Unit (TCU) and the PTO lube solenoid for physical damage, chafing, or loose connections that could cause a short to power

   Test the PTO clutch lube solenoid itself to see if it has failed internally

   Verify that no external power supplies are connected improperly and check for a faulty charging system causing voltage irregularities

   If the harness and solenoid test fine, verify the Tractor Control Unit (TCU) itself for internal faults

   Locate the Solenoid

   Identify the Rear PTO clutch lube solenoid on the rear PTO housing/valve block.

   Inspect and Repair Wiring

   Trace the wiring harness from the solenoid back to the TCU. Repair any damaged wires or connectors that are shorting to a 12V power source.

   Replace the Solenoid

   If the wiring is intact but the solenoid fails electrical testing (shorted internally), remove the faulty PTO clutch lube solenoid and install a new one.

   Clear Codes

   Once the physical repair is complete, use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the error code from the TCU.

   Test Operation

   Cycle the tractor's power and test the Rear PTO system (engaging and disengaging) to ensure normal operation and verify that the code does not return.
