Case IH 5024 – Rear PTO Controller or Tractor Control Unit (TCU): PTO clutch lube solenoid open circuit or shorted to ground or +12 VF3 voltage is low. (4WD Only)

The controller has detected a voltage irregularity in the circuit responsible for lubricating the Rear Power Take-Off (PTO) clutch. Specifically, the circuit is either broken (open), grounding out where it shouldn't be (shorted to ground), or the supply voltage (+12 VF3) is dropping below acceptable operating thresholds.

   Check the charging system and power supply to ensure +12 VF3 voltage is not dropping due to a weak battery, faulty alternator, or blown fuse

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the TCU to the PTO clutch lube solenoid for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation

   Test the solenoid for internal faults such as an open coil or internal short

   Check the TCU to verify it is sending the correct voltage to the solenoid

   Clear and Retest

   Clear the error code using an Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's diagnostic menu, and test the system for normal operation to ensure it is not an intermittent glitch.

   Visual Inspection

   Locate the Rear PTO clutch lube solenoid. Inspect the electrical connector for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture ingress. Clean and reconnect if necessary.

   Harness Continuity Test

   Disconnect the harness at the solenoid and at the TCU. Use a multimeter to check for continuity on the signal and ground wires.

   Short-to-Ground Test

   With the harness disconnected, check for continuity between the solenoid signal wire and the tractor chassis (ground). If continuity exists, the harness is shorted and must be repaired or replaced.

   Solenoid Resistance Test

   Measure the resistance across the pins of the PTO clutch lube solenoid. If the reading is out of specification (infinite resistance indicates an open circuit; zero resistance indicates a dead short), the solenoid is faulty.

   Replace Component

   If the solenoid fails the bench test, remove the retaining hardware, extract the faulty solenoid, and install the replacement part.

   Final Verification

   Reconnect the harness, start the tractor, engage the PTO (if safe to do so), and verify that code 5024 does not return.
