Case IH 5030 – CCH: Rear PTO Shaft size speed sensor open or short to Vbat (CCH Only)

The controller has detected a circuit fault—specifically an open circuit (broken wire or failed internal sensor component) or a short to battery voltage (Vbat) on the signal wire belonging to the rear PTO shaft size speed sensor.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear PTO shaft size speed sensor at the rear of the tractor for pinched wires, chafing, or debris damage.

   Disconnect the sensor and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or bent terminals.

   Using a multimeter, check the sensor's signal wire for a short to battery voltage (Vbat). With the key ON, the signal wire should not show full battery voltage if disconnected.

   Measure the continuity of the signal and ground wires from the sensor connector back to the CCH controller harness to rule out a broken wire (open circuit).

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the PTO shaft size speed sensor on the rear PTO housing assembly.

   Remove the Sensor

   Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the retaining bolt or clip holding the sensor in the PTO housing.

   Extract and Clean

   Carefully pull the sensor out of the housing. Clean the mounting port to ensure no dirt falls into the PTO housing.

   Install the New Sensor

   Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor (if applicable) with clean hydraulic/transmission fluid. Insert the sensor into the housing and secure it with the retaining bolt.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

7. 7

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool (like the Jaltest or Case IH EST) to clear the 5030 fault code.

   Verify Operation

   Start the tractor and engage the PTO to verify the controller correctly reads the shaft size and the code does not return.
