Case IH 5035 – XCM (Multi-function Control Module) or CCM (Chassis Control Module): Rear PTO fender switch - input short to 12V

The controller is receiving a continuous 12-volt signal from the external rear Power Take-Off (PTO) fender switch circuit, indicating either a wiring harness shorted to a power source or an internal short within the switch itself.

   Verify that the rear PTO fender switch option is enabled in the tractor's display/controller (if disabled, code 5098 may also appear).

   Perform a switch isolation test by disconnecting the rear PTO fender switch to see if the fault code changes to an open circuit or disappears (indicates an internally shorted switch).

   With the switch disconnected, use a multimeter to check the signal wire on the harness side for 12V (indicates a harness short).

   Inspect the wiring harness routed along the rear fender for chafing, pinched wires, or mud/debris buildup bridging connections.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the rear PTO switch on the rear fender. Remove the mounting screws or retaining bezel holding the switch in place.

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic tests pointed to a harness short, trace the wire back from the fender to the cab entry point. Splice and heat-shrink any chafed wires that are shorting to a 12V source.

   Replace the Switch (If Applicable)

   If the switch failed the isolation test, plug the wiring harness connector into the new OEM replacement switch.

   Reassembly

   Mount the new switch back into the fender housing and secure it.

   Calibration/Clearing

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on, navigate to the fault code menu on the A-pillar or armrest monitor, and clear the inactive codes. Test the fender switch to ensure the PTO engages and disengages properly without throwing the 5035 code.
