Case IH 5037 – Armrest Controller or PTO Controller: Rear PTO cab normally open switch - stuck closed

The control module is receiving a continuous closed-circuit (engaged) signal from the cab's Power Take-Off (PTO) switch, even when the switch is supposed to be in the normally open (disengaged/off) position.

   Inspect the cab PTO switch for physical damage, sticking, or dirt/debris that might be physically wedging the button in the depressed (closed) position.

   Remove the switch and use a digital multimeter to test for continuity across the switch terminals while it is in the 'OFF' position. If there is continuity, the internal contacts are fused/stuck closed.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the PTO switch and the Armrest/PTO controller. Look for wires that are chafed and shorting to power or shorting to ground.

   Check the controller's internal relay. If the controller senses voltage on the PTO circuit when it is not actively energized, the internal relay itself may be stuck closed.

   Disconnect power

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the switch

   Carefully pry up or unscrew the trim panel on the armrest or side right-hand console where the cab PTO switch is mounted.

   Disconnect wiring

   Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the back of the faulty PTO switch.

   Remove the switch

   Depress the retaining tabs or remove the mounting nut holding the PTO switch in the console bezel, and push the switch out.

   Install the new part

   Snap the new PTO switch into the console until it clicks securely into place.

   Reconnect wiring and trim

   Plug the electrical wiring harness into the new switch and reinstall the console trim panel.

   Test system

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and clear the stored fault codes. Cycle the PTO switch to ensure it engages and disengages properly and that code 5037 does not return.
