5047

Case IH 5047 – XCM (Multi-Function Control Module): Ground speed PTO configuration error

Issue description

The control module has detected a mismatch or error in the software configuration regarding the Ground Speed Power Take-Off (PTO). The controller expects a certain configuration that does not match the current hardware state, or a required calibration routine for the PTO was not completed successfully.

Applies to these machines

  • Farmall
  • Farmall series
  • Maxxum series
  • Puma series
  • MXM series

Check the cause

  1. Verify if the tractor is physically equipped with the Ground Speed PTO option.

  2. Check for related codes 5045 or 5046, which indicate a wiring or switch failure rather than a configuration error.

  3. Review recent service history for software updates, module replacements, or battery disconnects that could wipe or corrupt the XCM's configuration memory.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to the tractor's diagnostic port. (Alternatively, on some models, you can access the instrument cluster's 'H-Menu' diagnostic mode).

  2. Access module

Access the XCM (Multi-Function Control Module).

  3. Navigate to menu

Navigate to the Configuration or Calibration menu.

  4. Locate settings

    Locate the PTO configuration settings.

  5. Correct the Configuration

If the tractor does not have a Ground Speed PTO installed, ensure the setting is configured to 'Not Installed' or 'Disabled'. If the tractor does have a Ground Speed PTO installed, ensure the setting is configured to 'Installed' or 'Enabled'.

  6. Save settings

Save the configuration settings to the XCM.

  7. Power down modules

Turn the ignition key to the OFF position and wait for the modules to power down completely (usually 30 to 60 seconds) to allow the memory to write.

  8. Clear fault codes

Turn the key back ON and clear the inactive fault codes from the XCM memory.

  9. Test PTO functions

Test the tractor's PTO functions to verify normal operation and ensure the 5047 code does not return.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Multi-Function Control Module (XCM) / Transmission ECU

    87356940

Case IH MXM series XCM. The exact part number depends entirely on the specific tractor model, transmission type, and serial number break. A replacement XCM will be blank and must be programmed and calibrated using the CNH EST software upon installation.

  • Multi-Function Control Module (XCM) / Transmission ECU

    87524103

Case IH / New Holland T6000/T7000 series XCM. The exact part number depends entirely on the specific tractor model, transmission type, and serial number break. A replacement XCM will be blank and must be programmed and calibrated using the CNH EST software upon installation.

  • Multi-Function Control Module (XCM) / Transmission ECU

    47488103

Case IH Maxxum 145 Transmission ECU. The exact part number depends entirely on the specific tractor model, transmission type, and serial number break. A replacement XCM will be blank and must be programmed and calibrated using the CNH EST software upon installation.

  • Multi-Function Control Module (XCM) / Transmission ECU

    87304731

Case IH MXM175 / MXM190 Central Control Module. The exact part number depends entirely on the specific tractor model, transmission type, and serial number break. A replacement XCM will be blank and must be programmed and calibrated using the CNH EST software upon installation.
