Case IH 5052 – UCM (Universal Control Module) / Implement Controller: Loader Pilot Interlock Valve (On/Off) Solenoid Supply Shorted To Ground

The controller has detected that the electrical supply circuit providing power to the loader's pilot interlock solenoid has a short circuit to ground. When this occurs, the machine will disable the loader hydraulic functions for safety, and a RED master warning telltale lamp will illuminate.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the UCM/Implement Controller to the Loader Pilot Interlock Valve for chafed insulation, melted wires, or areas where the harness may be pinched against the machine's frame.

   Disconnect the harness at the interlock valve solenoid and at the controller. Use a digital multimeter to check the supply wire for continuity to ground. If continuity to ground is present while disconnected, the harness is shorted.

   Measure the resistance of the interlock valve solenoid coil itself. If the resistance is reading near zero ohms, the solenoid has an internal short to ground.

   Verify power to and from the Implement Controller interlock valve to ensure the controller itself is outputting the correct voltage and hasn't been damaged by the short.

   Prepare the Machine

   Park the machine on a level surface, lower the loader arms completely, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the Loader Pilot Interlock Valve on the primary hydraulic control valve block.

   Repair the Harness (If Applicable)

   If your diagnostic tests proved the wiring harness is shorted to ground, locate the damaged section. Splice and solder in a new section of wire, seal it with heat-shrink tubing, and secure the harness away from pinch points.

   Replace the Solenoid/Valve (If Applicable)

   If the solenoid coil is internally shorted, disconnect its electrical connector. Remove the retaining nut holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem and slide the old coil off. (Note: Depending on the exact model, you may need to replace the entire pilot valve assembly if the coil is not sold separately).

   Reassembly

   Slide the new solenoid onto the valve stem, tighten the retaining nut, and plug in the electrical connector.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and use the machine's display or an electronic service tool (EST) to clear the diagnostic code from the fault log.

   Test Operation

   Start the machine and test the loader pilot controls to ensure the interlock system engages/disengages properly and the fault code does not return.
