Case IH 51 – Transmission Controller (TRANS / TECU): FNRP pod indicates Forward or Reverse is on, when Park is on.

The FNRP (Forward-Neutral-Reverse-Park) pod is in an illogical state, meaning the system is receiving a signal that the shuttle lever is commanding a directional gear (Forward or Reverse) while simultaneously registering that the tractor is in Park.

   Check for mechanical binding in the FNRP shuttle lever preventing it from physically moving out of the Park/Neutral position

   Test with an Electronic Service Tool (EST) to monitor FNRP switch states and verify if the controller is accurately reading each position

   Inspect the electrical connection at the park brake solenoid — if the solenoid loses power, the transmission defaults to Park

   Check battery voltage — low voltage or dead batteries can cause the transmission computer to lock the system in Park

   Inspect the wiring harness connecting the FNRP pod to the transmission controller for shorts or open circuits

   Power Down

   Park the tractor on level ground, engage the handbrake (if applicable), and turn off the engine and all electrical systems.

   Access the FNRP Pod

   Remove the upper and lower plastic covers of the FNRP pod on the steering column/console to access the shuttle lever assembly.

   Replace the FNRP Switch/Lever

   If the lever is mechanically broken or the internal switch has failed (a common issue), disconnect the multi-pin electrical connector and unbolt the FNRP lever assembly. Install the new or remanufactured shuttle lever assembly.

   Replace the Park Solenoid (If Applicable)

   If diagnostics point to a failing park brake solenoid rather than the lever, locate the transmission valve body. Disconnect the wiring to the park solenoid, unthread the old solenoid valve, and install the replacement.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect all harnesses, reinstall the pod covers, and use the EST diagnostic tool to clear the inactive fault codes and recalibrate the transmission if required.
