Case IH 51011 – Aux Remote Controller: Aux Remote Controller failure - Valve Supply Relay Open
Issue description
The controller is detecting an open circuit, missing voltage, or a break in communication on the circuit that supplies 12V power to the auxiliary remote hydraulic valves via the valve supply relay. When this relay fails to close or the circuit is broken, the remote valves cannot receive the power needed to actuate the solenoids.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MX Magnum
- STX Steiger
- Case IH Magnum Series (MX / TG)
- Case IH Steiger Series
- Case IH Puma Series
- Case IH Maxxum Series
Check the cause
Check the cab/chassis fuses responsible for the Auxiliary Remote Controller and the hydraulic valve power supply.
Test the Valve Supply Relay by swapping it with a known good relay of the same type (like a horn or work light relay).
Inspect the wiring harness between the Aux Remote Controller, the relay block, and the remote valves for chafed wires, rodent damage, or pinched harnesses.
Disconnect the harness at the Aux Controller and the relay block to inspect the pins for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture ingress.
Perform a voltage drop test using a multimeter to verify that the relay socket is receiving a strong 12V supply from the battery/ignition and that the ground circuit is intact.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Relay Panel
Open the access panel for the main fuse/relay board (location varies by model, often on the right-hand console or behind the seat).
Replace the Relay
If the diagnostic checks isolated the relay as the culprit (which is the most common cause for an "Open" circuit code here), pull the faulty Valve Supply Relay and install a new OEM replacement.
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If the relay was good but a wire was broken, strip back the damaged section of the harness. Solder and heat-shrink the broken wire, or use an OEM-approved weatherproof butt connector.
Clean Contacts
Spray the relay socket and controller connectors with a high-quality electrical contact cleaner before reconnecting.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position, enter the tractor's diagnostic menu via the instrumentation cluster, and clear the inactive fault codes.
Test Operation
Start the tractor and cycle the auxiliary remote levers/switches to ensure the hydraulic valves actuate properly and the code does not return.
Parts you might need
(3)Valve Supply Relay (12V Automotive/Micro Relay)
Always match the amperage rating printed on the side of the original relay.
Aux Remote Controller
Only replace if the relay and wiring test perfectly but the controller fails to output the ground/power signal to the relay coil. (Requires dealer programming/calibration if replaced).
Hydraulic Remote Valve Switch
