Case IH 51049 – Aux Remote Controller: Aux Remote Controller failure - Valve Current Limit Protection Failed

The controller has detected that the electrical current required to operate one or more of the remote valve solenoids has exceeded the safe limit, tripping the internal protection circuit, or the controller itself has suffered an internal hardware failure.

   Check the Solenoids: Disconnect the wiring harness from the remote valve solenoids (Raise/Lower coils for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th remotes). Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of each solenoid coil. A shorted solenoid coil will draw excessive current and trip the controller's protection.

   Inspect the Wiring Harness: Check the wiring harness between the Aux Remote Controller and the remote valves for chafing, melting, or pinched wires that could be causing a short to ground or a short to 12 volts.

   Verify Power and Ground: Check the power supply and ground connections directly at the Aux Remote Controller to ensure it is receiving clean voltage without voltage spikes.

   Isolate the Controller: If the wiring harness and all solenoids test within specification, the fault lies within the Aux Remote Controller's internal circuitry.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Test and Replace Shorted Components

   If your diagnostic checks revealed a shorted remote valve solenoid or damaged wiring, replace the faulty solenoid or repair the harness section.

   Replace the Controller (If Necessary)

   If the external circuits are good, the Aux Remote Controller has failed internally. Locate the Aux Remote Controller (usually located in the rear cab or near the valve stack depending on the model), disconnect its multi-pin connectors, and unbolt it from its mounting bracket.

   Install the New Controller

   Mount the new Aux Remote Controller and securely reconnect the wiring harness.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery. Use the tractor's instrumentation panel or a diagnostic service tool (like the CNH Electronic Service Tool) to clear the inactive 51049 fault code.

   Perform Valve Calibration

   You will likely need to perform a remote valve calibration procedure via the tractor's display so the new controller can learn the flow limits and deadbands of the hydraulic valves.
