51056

Case IH 51056 – AUX Controller / AUX67: 1st Raise solenoid failed open or a short circuit to ground

Issue description

The controller is detecting an abnormal electrical condition—either an infinite resistance (open circuit, such as a broken wire or burnt-out coil) or a path directly to ground (short circuit) on the circuit responsible for the "raise" function of the #1 auxiliary hydraulic remote valve.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • STX Steiger
  • MX180
  • MX210
  • MX230
  • MX255
  • MX285
  • STX275
  • STX425
  • STX450
  • STX480
  • STX530
  • TG Series
  • TG210
  • TG230
  • TG255
  • TG285
  • T8000 series

Check the cause

  1. Perform a solenoid swap test: Swap the electrical connections or coils between the 1st and 2nd remote raise solenoids. If the fault code changes to the 2nd remote (e.g., code 51066), the coil is dead. If it remains 51056, the issue is in the wiring or controller.

  2. Perform a controller relay check: Open the controller cover, turn the ignition key ON for more than two seconds, then OFF. Listen for a relay click. No click indicates a potentially failed controller.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness running from the AUX controller to the remote valve block for pinched wires, chafing against the chassis, or corrosion inside connector pins.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and cycle the remote levers/switches to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  3. Locate the Valve

Locate the #1 auxiliary remote valve block at the rear of the tractor. Identify the "Raise" proportional solenoid.

  4. Disconnect Harness

Unplug the electrical harness connector from the faulty solenoid.

  5. Remove the Solenoid

Remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem that holds the solenoid coil in place.

  6. Replace

Slide the old solenoid coil off the proportional valve cartridge. Slide the new OEM replacement coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut (do not over-tighten, as this can distort the cartridge).

  7. Reassemble

Reconnect the electrical harness to the new solenoid.

  8. Test

Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and operate the 1st remote raise function. Verify that the remote operates smoothly and that fault code 51056 has cleared from the instrumentation display.
