51063

Case IH 51063 – Auxiliary Valve Controller (AUX / AUX67 / AUX89) or Tractor Management Frame (TMF) / Armrest Controller: Aux 2nd Lower Coil solenoid shorted to 12 volts

Issue description

The control module has detected an improper voltage reading on the circuit responsible for the lowering (or retract) function of the #2 auxiliary remote hydraulic valve. The circuit is receiving 12 volts when it shouldn't be, indicating an internal short within the solenoid coil, a wiring harness shorted to a power source, or an internal failure in the controller.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • STX Steiger
  • Case IH MX Magnum Series
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH Maxxum Series
  • Case IH TG Series

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness and connector going to the 'Lower' solenoid on the #2 auxiliary remote valve block for rubbed-through insulation, melted wires, or corrosion.

  2. Perform a coil resistance test on the 2nd lower solenoid to check for an internal short (resistance near zero).

  3. Check the harness-side connector for constant 12 volts with the key ON and solenoid disconnected to identify a short to power.

  4. If wiring tests fine, check the Auxiliary Valve Controller for a failed internal relay or driver stuck closed.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Turn off the tractor, lower all implements to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the battery.

  2. Locate the Component

Identify the #2 remote valve slice on the rear hydraulic stack. Identify the 'Lower' (retract) solenoid coil on that specific valve body.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical harness connector from the faulty solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

Remove the retaining nut or cap screws holding the solenoid coil to the valve cartridge stem.

  5. Slide Off the Coil

Carefully slide the old solenoid coil off the valve stem. (Note: On most Case IH proportional valves, you can replace the electromagnetic coil without removing the hydraulic cartridge, meaning you won't lose hydraulic fluid).

  6. Install the New Part

Clean the stem, slide the new solenoid coil into place, and secure it with the retaining hardware. Do not overtighten the retaining nut, as this can distort the coil.

  7. Reconnect and Test

Plug the electrical connector back in. Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and clear the inactive fault codes from the display. Cycle the #2 remote valve to ensure proper operation and verify the code does not return.
