Case IH 51065 – Auxiliary Valve Controller (AUX / Remote Controller): Aux 2nd Lower solenoid failed open or short circuit
Issue description
The controller is detecting an electrical fault in the circuit that operates the lowering (or retract) function of the #2 auxiliary remote hydraulic valve. The system is seeing either an open circuit (such as a broken wire, disconnected plug, or burnt-out solenoid coil) or a short to ground.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- MX Magnum
- STX Steiger
- Case IH MX Magnum Series (MX180, MX200, MX220, MX240, MX270, MX210, MX230, MX255, MX285)
- Case IH Steiger Series
Check the cause
Swap the hydraulic hoses of your implement to another remote (e.g., Remote #1 or #3) to verify the issue is isolated to the tractor's #2 remote valve.
Swap the electrical connector or the physical solenoid coil from the 2nd remote 'Lower' position with a known good coil (e.g., 2nd remote 'Raise' or 1st remote 'Lower'). If the fault code changes to follow the coil, the solenoid coil is internally failed.
If the fault code remains 51065 after swapping coils, inspect the wiring harness connector at the 2nd remote valve for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or wire chafing against the chassis.
Measure the resistance of the suspect solenoid coil with a multimeter to confirm if it has infinite resistance (failed open) or zero resistance to the valve body (shorted to ground).
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor, engage the parking brake, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system by cycling the remote levers/switches with the key on (engine off), then turn the key off.
Locate the remote hydraulic control valve stack at the rear of the tractor. Identify the #2 remote valve section (usually counted from left to right or top to bottom depending on the stack orientation).
Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the lower solenoid on the #2 valve.
Remove the retaining nut or fastener at the end of the solenoid cartridge.
Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve stem. (If the entire cartridge valve is being replaced, unthread the cartridge from the valve block, being prepared to catch residual hydraulic fluid).
Clean the valve stem. If replacing the cartridge, lubricate the new O-rings with clean hydraulic fluid before threading it into the block.
Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and secure the retaining nut.
Reconnect the electrical connector.
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test the #2 remote valve operation. Clear the stored 51065 fault code via the A-post display or a diagnostic service tool.
