Case IH 51074 – AUX (Auxiliary Valve Controller): Aux 3rd Raise Coil solenoid shorted to 12 volts.
Issue description
This code indicates that the electrical circuit controlling the "Raise" (lifting) function of the 3rd auxiliary remote valve has short-circuited to a 12-volt power source. This prevents the controller from properly regulating the hydraulic flow for that specific remote valve, as the solenoid is receiving constant or improper voltage.

Check the cause
Locate the auxiliary hydraulic valve stack at the rear of the tractor and identify the 3rd remote valve.
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the 3rd remote valve's 'Raise' solenoid. Look for rubbed, melted, or pinched wires that could be exposing the signal wire directly to a 12V power wire or battery source.
Disconnect the harness at the solenoid. Check for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins bridging the connections inside the plug.
Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the 3rd raise solenoid coil. If the resistance is near zero (continuity), the coil has failed internally and is shorted.
With the solenoid disconnected, turn the key ON and test the harness-side connector with a multimeter. If 12 volts is present on the signal wire without the operator commanding the 3rd valve to raise, the wiring harness is shorted to power further up the line, or the AUX controller has an internal driver failure.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the 3rd auxiliary valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty 3rd Raise solenoid coil.
Remove the Coil
Remove the retaining nut or screw at the end of the solenoid cartridge stem.
Swap the Coil
Slide the shorted coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge. (Note: You usually do not need to open the hydraulic system or remove the cartridge valve itself just to replace the electromagnetic coil).
Install the New Part
Slide the new OEM replacement coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut. Do not overtighten, as this can crack the plastic coil housing.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back into the new solenoid.
Test
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and clear the inactive fault codes from the AUX controller. Actuate the 3rd remote valve to ensure proper raise/lower operation and verify that code 51074 does not return.
