Case IH 51086 – Remote (AUX) Controller: Aux 4th Raise solenoid failed open or short circuit

Issue description

The electrical circuit controlling the "raise" function of the 4th auxiliary remote hydraulic valve has an electrical fault. The system has detected that the circuit is either interrupted (an open circuit, such as a broken wire or disconnected plug) or shorted (touching a ground or another voltage source), which prevents the 4th remote valve from operating correctly.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • Case IH MX Series
  • Case IH TG Series
  • Case IH Magnum
  • Case IH Steiger
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH Puma 125

Check the cause

  1. Locate the 4th auxiliary remote valve block at the rear of the tractor and identify the 'raise' solenoid.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the AUX controller to the 4th remote raise solenoid for any visible damage, chafing, or disconnected plugs.

  3. Check the connector pins at both the solenoid and the AUX controller for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture intrusion.

  4. Use a multimeter to test the wiring harness for continuity (to rule out an open circuit) and check for a short to ground or short to power.

  5. Measure the internal resistance of the 4th raise solenoid coil itself to determine if the coil has internally failed open or shorted out.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the tractor's battery power before servicing the electrical system to prevent further shorts.

  2. Repair wiring

If the diagnostic tests revealed damaged wiring or a faulty connector, repair the wiring harness or splice in a new connector pigtail.

  3. Disconnect solenoid

If the wiring is intact but the solenoid coil tested out of specification, the coil must be replaced. Disconnect the electrical connector from the 4th raise solenoid.

  4. Remove retaining nut

Remove the retaining nut holding the solenoid coil to the hydraulic valve cartridge.

  5. Remove old coil

Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve stem.

  6. Install new coil

Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut.

  7. Reconnect harness

Reconnect the electrical harness to the new solenoid.

  8. Test operation

Reconnect the battery, clear the stored fault codes from the AUX controller, and test the 4th remote valve operation to ensure the code does not return.
