51116

Case IH 51116 – REMOTE (AUX) CONTROLLER: Invalid Software Instruction Executed

Issue description

The control module has encountered a critical software logic error, memory corruption, or a software crash. The module attempted to process a command or instruction that is not recognized or is invalid within its programmed logic.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • MX Series Tractors
  • TG Series Tractors
  • Magnum Series
  • Steiger Series
  • Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify the tractor's battery voltage and alternator output, as low battery voltage or voltage spikes can cause memory corruption and software crashes.

  2. Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check the status of the AUX controller on the CAN bus network to ensure it is communicating properly.

  3. Look for accompanying memory or configuration fault codes (such as 9019 or 9029) which confirm the module's memory has been corrupted.

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Retest

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Clear the stored fault codes in the AUX controller. Cycle the key power (turn off, wait 30 seconds, turn back on) to see if the code returns.

  2. Software Reflash

If the code returns immediately, the software is corrupted. Use the EST to reflash/reprogram the AUX controller with the latest OEM software version.

  3. Module Replacement

If the AUX controller will not accept the software flash, or if the 51116 code persists after a successful reflash, the controller has suffered an internal hardware/memory failure and must be replaced.

  4. Recalibration

If the AUX controller is replaced, you must use the EST or the tractor's armrest display to perform a full calibration of the auxiliary remote valves and the in-cab remote levers.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Auxiliary (AUX) Controller / Remote Valve Controller

Varies by specific model/chassis. New controllers are shipped blank or with base software. They must be programmed and calibrated by a dealer using the EST upon installation.
