51117

Case IH 51117 – Remote (AUX) Controller / AUX67: Invalid Software Instruction Executed

Issue description

The control module attempted to process a software command that it could not recognize or execute. This is most commonly caused by a software problem (glitch, corrupted memory, or logic error) and less commonly by a hardware problem (internal failure of the controller's microprocessor or memory circuits).

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • MX Magnum Series
  • Steiger Series
  • TG Series
  • Puma Series
  • Maxxum Series

Check the cause

  1. Check Power and Ground: Ensure the Remote Hydraulic Controller has a clean, secure connection to the battery (specifically check connector C053) and is properly grounded.

  2. Verify System Voltage: Check for voltage spikes or drops. Alternator regulator malfunctions or battery voltages exceeding 16.2 volts can cause the controller to behave erratically and log invalid software instructions.

  3. Clear and Retest: Clear the fault code from the system memory. Shut down the tractor completely, then restart it.

Repair steps

  1. Clear the Code

Use the tractor's instrument cluster or the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear fault code 51117.

  2. Power Cycle

Turn the key switch to the OFF position, wait for the system to power down completely, and then restart the tractor.

  3. Function Test

Operate the tractor with the #1 remote hydraulic valve in 'Auto' mode.

  4. Evaluate

If the fault code does not return, it was a temporary software glitch (likely caused by a voltage fluctuation) and no further action is needed. If the fault code is recorded again, the Remote Hydraulic Controller has suffered an internal hardware/memory failure and must be replaced.

  5. Post-Repair Calibration

If the controller is replaced, the new module must be calibrated to the tractor using the EST (Electronic Service Tool) so it can recognize the remote levers and flow control settings.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Remote Hydraulic Controller (AUX Controller)

Varies heavily by specific tractor model, serial number, and the number of rear remotes. Pull the exact part number directly off the data sticker of the failed controller. Must be flashed/calibrated by a dealer using the CNH EST software.
