Case IH 51128 – Remote AUX Controller: Invalid Software Instruction Executed

Issue description

Internal logic or software failure within the controller. The module has attempted to process an unrecognized, corrupt, or invalid software command, which typically points to a firmware glitch, memory corruption, or an internal hardware failure within the controller itself.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • Case IH MX Magnum Series
  • MX210
  • MX230
  • MX255
  • MX285
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Puma 125
  • Puma 200
  • TG210
  • TG230
  • TG255
  • TG285

Check the cause

  1. Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check the current status of the AUX controller and verify if the code is active or stored.

  2. Carry out a CAN bus communication check to ensure the AUX controller is properly communicating with the Armrest Controller and the Tractor ECU (Gateway).

  3. Check the unswitched and switched power supplies, as well as the clean ground circuits to the AUX controller. Voltage spikes or poor grounds can cause logic errors.

  4. Attempt to clear the fault codes. If the code returns immediately, check if there is a software update available for the AUX controller and attempt to reflash the module using the EST.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Locate the Controller

Locate the Remote Auxiliary Controller. On Magnum/TG series, this may require moving the wire harness forward near the front side of the rear housing/range housing seam.

  3. Disconnect Harness

Carefully disconnect the wire harness from the remote auxiliary controller.

  4. Remove Hardware

Remove the mounting bolts securing the controller to the housing.

  5. Install New Module

Install the replacement AUX controller and secure it with the mounting bolts.

  6. Reconnect

Reconnect the wire harness and reconnect the battery.

  7. Program and Calibrate

Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST). The new controller must be programmed with the correct machine software.

  8. Hydraulic Calibration

Perform the Auxiliary Remote lever calibration. This often requires the hydraulic oil to be up to operating temperature. Using the EST or the armrest calibration menu, you will need to calibrate the extend, retract, and neutral positions, as well as the flow control limits for each remote valve.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Remote AUX Controller / Auxiliary Hydraulic Controller

When ordering, ensure you are getting the correct controller for the number of remotes equipped on the tractor (e.g., some controllers manage remotes 1-5, while others manage AUX 6/7 or AUX 8/9). The replacement controller will require dealer programming via the EST tool upon installation.
