51144

Case IH 51144 – AUX Controller: Invalid Software Instruction Executed

Issue description

This fault code indicates an internal software or memory error. The controller's internal processor has encountered an invalid software command or execution failure.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • Case IH MX Magnum Series (MX180, MX200, MX210, MX220, MX230, MX255, MX270, MX285)
  • Case IH TG Series / Steiger

Check the cause

  1. Perform a standard key-off sequence power cycle to see if the code is a temporary glitch that clears upon rebooting the system.

  2. Verify the CAN bus communication lines to the AUX controller. Check the data bus voltages (typically around 2.4V to 2.5V on the yellow and green wires) to ensure proper communication with the Armrest Controller and main ECU.

  3. Verify that the AUX controller is receiving proper 12V power and has a solid ground connection.

  4. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the diagnostic port to check the AUX controller's status and look for accompanying codes (such as 51200 or 51250, which indicate remote switch failures).

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Retest

Using the EST, clear the fault codes and cycle the tractor's power. Operate the remote valves to see if code 51144 returns.

  2. Software Flash

Attempt to re-flash or update the AUX controller with the latest software version using the EST.

  3. Replace the Controller

If the software update fails, or if the code immediately returns, the internal memory or processor of the AUX controller has failed. The controller must be physically replaced.

  4. Recalibration

If the AUX controller is replaced, you must perform a remote valve calibration. This involves using the EST (or the in-cab calibration menu) to set the extend/retract limits and flow controls for each remote lever.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Auxiliary Valve Controller (Remote AUX Controller)

Specific part numbers vary heavily depending on the exact tractor model, serial number break, and the number of remotes equipped. Pull the specific part number directly off the existing AUX controller module or provide the tractor's PIN/Serial Number to a dealer.
