Case IH 51147 – Remote AUX Controller / Armrest Controller: Invalid Software Instruction Executed

Issue description

This is an internal logic or memory error indicating that the module's microprocessor attempted to read or execute a line of software code that was corrupt, unrecognized, or invalid.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • Case IH MX Series
  • Case IH TG Series
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH Puma 125

Check the cause

  1. Connect an electronic service tool to determine if the code is active or if it was a one-time stored glitch

  2. Check the current software version on the AUX/Armrest controller, as software instruction errors are often patched by the manufacturer via software updates

  3. Check for accompanying controller memory errors (such as loss of hitch/auxiliary calibration data or remote timer information), which indicate the controller's flash memory is failing

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Retest

Clear the fault code using the diagnostic service tool. Cycle the key power and operate the auxiliary remote valves to see if the code returns.

  2. Re-flash the Controller

If the code is hard-set or returns immediately, use the electronic service tool to re-flash the Remote AUX Controller with the latest OEM software calibration.

  3. Replace the Controller

If the controller refuses to accept the software flash, or if the 'Invalid Software Instruction Executed' code persists after a successful flash, the controller's internal memory/processor is physically damaged. The controller must be replaced.

  4. Re-calibrate

Whether the controller was re-flashed or replaced, you must perform a full calibration procedure for the auxiliary valves and armrest controls before returning the tractor to service.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Remote AUX Controller / Armrest Controller

Exact OEM part numbers vary heavily depending on the specific tractor model, cab configuration, and serial number break. You will need to look up the specific controller for the exact machine.
