Case IH 5115-09 - DEC – DEC: Rear hitch lift solenoid - overcurrent/short to ground
Issue description
The controller has detected that the electrical circuit operating the rear hitch lift solenoid is drawing too much current or is shorted directly to the chassis ground. This prevents the controller from safely actuating the valve to lift the rear three-point hitch.

Check the cause
Locate the rear hitch control valve block at the rear of the tractor.
Disconnect the harness from the "Lift" solenoid.
Use a multimeter to check the harness side for continuity to ground on the power supply wire. If continuity exists, the harness is shorted.
Measure the resistance across the pins of the solenoid coil itself. If the resistance is near zero (outside of the standard 7-12 ohm range for typical CNH coils), the coil is internally shorted.
Repair steps
Repair shorted harness
If the harness is shorted, trace the wire back toward the DEC/cab bulkhead, locate the pinch point or chafed insulation, and repair the wire.
Remove retaining nut
If the solenoid coil is internally shorted, remove the retaining nut on the end of the solenoid stem.
Remove old coil
Slide the old coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge. (Do not remove the hydraulic cartridge itself unless it is leaking, to avoid fluid loss and contamination).
Install new solenoid coil
Slide the new coil onto the stem and torque the retaining nut to OEM spec (do not overtighten, or the spool may bind).
Calibrate rear hitch
Reconnect the harness, clear the fault codes, and perform a rear hitch calibration using the in-cab display or EST tool.
