5116-09 - DEC

Case IH 5116-09 - DEC – PTO / Hydraulic Control Module or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): PTO hydraulic torque sensor above normal range / CAN VB2 VCM MFD/DIFF message abnormal update rate

Issue description

Code 5116-09 indicates the PTO hydraulic torque sensor is reading valid data above the normal range. The CAN VB2 VCM MFD/DIFF error indicates a communication failure or overload on the CAN bus, often caused by a faulty hydraulic controller that triggers a safety protocol locking the tractor in park.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH high-horsepower tractors

Check the cause

  1. If diagnosing the CAN bus/park issue: Isolate the hydraulic remotes and check the hydraulic controllers for internal shorts or CAN communication flooding

  2. If diagnosing the 5116-09 over-range condition: Check the PTO hydraulic torque sensor wiring harness for shorts to power that might cause an artificially high reading

  3. If diagnosing the 5116-09 over-range condition: Verify the actual hydraulic pressure/torque at the PTO

Repair steps

  1. Identify the Faulty Node

Use a diagnostic tool to monitor CAN bus traffic and identify which hydraulic port/controller is flooding the network.

  2. Disable the Faulty Port (Temporary Fix)

Through the dealer diagnostic software, digitally disable the specific faulty hydraulic port. This stops the module from overloading the CAN bus, allowing the tractor to shift out of park and be used for operations that do not require that specific remote.

  3. Replace the Component

Once the replacement part arrives, physically swap out the faulty hydraulic controller/remote valve and re-enable the port in the system.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Hydraulic Controller / Remote Hydraulic Control Valve

    A169029

Required if the CAN bus is being overloaded by the remote valve.

  • PTO Hydraulic Torque Sensor

Required if diagnosing the 5116-09 over-range condition.
