5124-19 - IMM

Case IH 5124-19 - IMM – UCM / Armrest Controller or ECM / DCU: IMM: Mobilization controller communication error / Right Joystick Forward-Back Axis In-Range Fault

Issue description

If related to IMM: The ECM is unable to verify security credentials from the immobilizer module or transponder key, preventing the engine from starting by disabling fuel injection. If related to Code 5124: The system detects an out-of-range signal or implausible digital input from the right-hand joystick's forward-back axis on the armrest controls.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
  • Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
  • Magnum series
  • Steiger series
  • Optum AFS Connect
  • export models

Check the cause

  1. Verify Power and Ground: Check battery voltage. It should be ~12.5V at rest and must stay above ~10.5V during cranking. Clean and tighten battery terminals and inspect the main ground strap.

  2. Check Relays: Listen for the main relay clicking. A faulty main relay can interrupt power to the ECM/IMM, causing communication drops.

  3. Scan the System: Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) using a DPA5 adapter. Verify if the ECM is locked out by the immobilizer or if the armrest controller is registering joystick faults.

  4. Inspect Harnesses: If diagnosing code 5124, check the wiring harness connecting the right joystick to the UCM for pinched wires, shorts to ground, or shorts to power.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Voltage Issues

If battery voltage drops excessively during cranking, replace the battery or repair the main ground cables. Clear the codes and retest.

  2. Harness Replacement

If the communication error is traced to a physical wiring fault between the IMM and the ECM, locate the damaged section of the immobilizer wire harness and replace it.

  3. Module Replacement & Cloning

If the Immobilizer module or ECM has suffered an internal EEPROM failure (e.g., code 19723/P062F), the module must be replaced.

  4. Reprogramming

A replacement ECM must be programmed to match the tractor's VIN and immobilizer pairing data. This can be done via the CNH EST software (Dealer Mode Access required) or by sending the original and replacement modules to a specialized bench-cloning service (e.g., Karman Auto).
