Case IH 51261 – Remote (AUX) Controller: Implement Sensor supply out of range Low
Issue description
This fault code indicates that the reference supply voltage going to the implement sensor has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold (failed low). This condition is typically caused by a short circuit to ground in the sensor's supply wiring, an internally shorted implement sensor that is pulling the reference voltage down, or a failure within the controller's internal power supply circuit.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Trace the wiring harness from the AUX controller to the implement sensor. Look for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or areas where the harness might be rubbing against the tractor chassis, which would cause a short to ground.
Sensor Disconnect Test: Unplug the implement sensor. Turn the key ON and check the active fault codes. If the code changes from 51261 (Low) to 51262 (Implement Sensor supply out of range High), the wiring is likely intact, and the sensor itself is internally shorted.
Voltage Check: With the sensor disconnected, use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the supply pin on the harness connector. You should see a steady reference voltage (typically 5V). If the voltage is 0V or significantly low, the short is in the wiring harness or the AUX controller is failing to output the voltage.
Continuity/Short Test: Disconnect the harness at the AUX controller and at the sensor. Measure the resistance between the sensor supply wire and the chassis ground. Any continuity indicates a short to ground in the harness.
Connector Check: Inspect the pins at both the sensor and the controller for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-out pins that could bridge circuits.

Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and turn off the master battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical spikes.
Address Wiring Faults
If a short to ground was found in the harness during diagnostics, open the wire loom at the damaged section. Cut out the damaged wire, splice in a new section using solder and heat-shrink tubing (or a weather-pack connector repair kit), and re-loom the harness securely away from pinch points.
Replace the Sensor
If the sensor was determined to be internally shorted, unbolt the sensor bracket/housing from the implement linkage. Install the new OEM implement sensor and route the pigtail safely.
Clean Connections
Spray the harness connectors with electrical contact cleaner and apply a small amount of dielectric grease to prevent moisture intrusion.
Reassemble and Reconnect
Plug the sensor back into the harness and turn on the battery disconnect switch.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
Turn the ignition ON. Use the tractor's display monitor or the electronic service tool to clear the inactive 51261 fault code. Cycle the remote valves and verify that the implement feedback operates correctly without the code returning.
