5132

Case IH 5132 – UCM (Universal Control Module) or Armrest Control Module: Right Joystick Right-Left Axis (ISO/H Pattern) Pin A Shorted To Power

Issue description

The controller is detecting an abnormally high voltage on the signal circuit (Pin A) responsible for the right-to-left movement of the right-hand joystick. Because it is shorted to a power source, the voltage exceeds the maximum allowable threshold, causing the machine to disable the joystick's right-left hydraulic functions for safety.

Applies to these machines

  • skid steer
  • SR130
  • SR150
  • SR175
  • SV185
  • SV250
  • SV300
  • TR270
  • TR320
  • TV380
  • TV450
  • Puma
  • Magnum
  • Maxxum
  • SR175B
  • SV250B
  • TR270B
  • TV380B

Check the cause

  1. Isolate the Component: Turn the key ON (engine OFF). Disconnect the right joystick harness connector. Check the active fault codes. If the code changes from 5132 (Short to Power) to 5131 (Pin A Open or Short to Ground), the short is internal to the joystick base. If the code remains 5132, the short is in the machine's wiring harness.

  2. Harness Testing: With the joystick disconnected, use a digital multimeter to probe Pin A on the machine-side harness. Check for continuity to a 12V power source.

  3. Visual Inspection: Inspect the joystick connector and the UCM connectors for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent/pushed-out pins that could be bridging the signal wire to a power wire.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare machine for service

Park the machine on a level surface, lower the loader arms completely, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Expose joystick base

Remove the right-hand console or armrest covers to expose the base of the right joystick and its wiring harness.

  3. Repair wiring harness

If the harness is shorted: Trace the wire for Pin A from the joystick connector back to the UCM. Look for pinch points, chafing against the cab frame, or melted insulation. Repair the damaged wire using weather-resistant heat-shrink butt connectors.

  4. Remove faulty joystick

If the joystick is internally shorted: Unbolt the right joystick assembly from the console mount.

  5. Install replacement joystick

Install the replacement joystick assembly. Carefully route the new harness to ensure it will not be pinched or stretched when the armrest is moved or flipped up.

  6. Connect harness

Plug the joystick connector into the machine harness.

  7. Reinstall covers

    Reinstall the console/armrest covers.

  8. Reconnect battery

    Reconnect the negative battery cable.

  9. Verify repair

Turn the key ON, clear the stored fault codes, and test the right joystick's right-left axis in both ISO and H control patterns to verify the repair.
