Case IH 5135 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Right Joystick Right-Left Axis (ISO/H Pattern) Pin B Shorted To Power

The control module is detecting an abnormally high voltage on the Pin B signal circuit of the right joystick's right-left axis sensor. This indicates that the sensor wire is making direct contact with a power source, or the joystick's internal circuitry has failed and is sending full voltage back to the controller.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the base of the right joystick to the UCM for pinched wires, chafing, or melted insulation that could cause the Pin B wire to short against a 12V power wire.

   Disconnect the multi-pin connector at the right joystick and the UCM. Inspect for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge the power and signal circuits.

   With the joystick disconnected and the key ON, use a multimeter to check for voltage on the Pin B wire of the machine-side harness to isolate the short. If voltage is present, the short is in the harness. If no voltage is present, the short is internal to the joystick.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical damage during repair.

   Access the Components

   Remove the necessary interior cab trim or armrest covers to fully access the right joystick mounting base and wiring pigtail.

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If your diagnostic checks isolated the short to the harness, locate the damaged section of the wire. Splice and solder a new section of wire, seal it with heat-shrink tubing, and re-loom the harness.

   Replace Joystick (If Applicable)

   If the short is internal to the joystick: Unplug the OEM multi-pin CNH connector. Remove the mounting bolts securing the joystick to the armrest/console. Install the new or remanufactured electronic joystick control assembly. Secure the mounting hardware and plug in the connector.

   Reassemble and Test

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key ON and use a diagnostic scan tool (or the machine's instrument cluster) to clear the UCM fault codes. Test the right-left axis (bucket rollback/dump) in ISO/H pattern mode to ensure smooth proportional movement and confirm that code 5135 does not return.
