Case IH 5137 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Right Joystick Right-Left Axis (ISO/H Pattern) In-Range Fault

This fault indicates that the control module is receiving a signal from the right joystick's right-left axis sensor that is within the normal electrical operating voltage limits (it is not an open circuit, nor is it shorted to ground or power), but the value is illogical or physically impossible.

   Check the right joystick for physical damage, binding, or debris (like dirt or torn rubber boots) that might be preventing the joystick from returning perfectly to the neutral position.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the base of the right joystick for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins that could cause slight resistance fluctuations.

   Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) and monitor the live data for the Right Joystick Right-Left Axis. Sweep the joystick left and right to verify if the signal transitions smoothly without dropouts, and ensure it returns to the exact calibrated neutral percentage/voltage when released.

   Attempt a joystick calibration using the EST (or the advanced instrument cluster, if equipped) to see if the UCM can relearn the sensor's parameters.

   Park and secure machine

   Park the machine on a level surface, lower the loader arms and bucket completely to the ground, and turn off the engine.

   Disconnect battery

   Attach a "Do Not Operate" tag to the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access joystick base

   Remove the right-hand console or armrest covers to access the base of the right joystick controller.

   Disconnect harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the joystick base.

   Remove faulty joystick

   Remove the mounting bolts securing the joystick assembly to the console and remove the faulty joystick.

   Install replacement joystick

   Install the replacement joystick assembly and secure it with the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect harness and covers

   Reconnect the electrical harness and reinstall the console/armrest covers.

   Reconnect battery

   Reconnect the negative battery cable.

   Calibrate joystick

   Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) and perform the mandatory joystick calibration procedure. The UCM must learn the new joystick's specific neutral, minimum, and maximum axis values.

    Clear the 5137 fault code and test the bucket rollback/dump functions for proper operation.
