Case IH 51401 – Auxiliary Remote Controllers (AUX67, AUX89, TMF): Implement feedback #1 out of range Low
Issue description
The feedback potentiometer (position sensor) for Implement #1 (or the #1 remote valve on that specific controller bank) is sending a voltage signal to the controller that has fallen below the acceptable minimum threshold. This usually points to a failed potentiometer, a short to ground, or an open circuit in the sensor wiring.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MX Magnum
- STX Steiger
- Magnum Series (MX Magnum, Tier 3, Tier 4B)
- Steiger Series (4WD tractors)
- Puma & Maxxum Series
- TG Series
Check the cause
Use a service tool or advanced display to monitor the 'ARMREST AUX REMOTE SET SWITCH' status while manually actuating it to see if the status display matches physical changes.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors (such as connector C150F) between the implement/scraper controller and the tractor's remote hydraulic controller for rubbed wires (short to ground) or broken wires (open circuit).
If running a towed implement (like a scraper) with its own controller, follow the implement manufacturer's troubleshooting guide to rule out a fault on the implement side of the harness.
Test the potentiometer with a multimeter to ensure a steady resistance sweep (commonly around 3000 Ohms or 4.2k Ohms end-to-end).
Repair steps
Clear and Retest
If no wiring faults are found, clear the fault code. Turn the key switch to OFF, then restart the tractor. Operate the tractor with the affected remote in 'Auto' mode.
Replace the Potentiometer
If the code returns immediately and the wiring is verified good, the potentiometer on the remote valve is faulty and must be replaced. Remove the mounting screws (note that they may be offset) and slide the sensor off the half-moon actuator shaft. Install the new potentiometer.
Controller Replacement
If the sensor and wiring are both perfectly functional but the code persists, the service manual dictates replacing the remote hydraulic controller itself.
Calibration
After replacing the potentiometer or valve components, the CAN-based EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) valves must be calibrated. Access the 'AUX SET MENU' or 'EHR CAL' screen on the tractor instrumentation (accessed by holding the PROG key during startup on some models) and follow the prompts to allow the controller to find the flow thresholds of the valves.
