Case IH 517673-14 - ACM – ACM: Incorrect PTO keypad configuration

Issue description

The control module is detecting a configuration mismatch, an unrecognized switch state, or a communication error regarding the Power Take-Off (PTO) keypad setup.

Check the cause

  1. Check for related communication codes (e.g., 1012 or 2818) that indicate a complete loss of communication with the Armrest Control Module.

  2. Inspect fuses related to the PTO controller and armrest (e.g., Fuse 38). If a fuse fails immediately when the PTO switch is turned on, it indicates a short to ground.

  3. Verify that the Tractor Control Unit (TCU) and ACM connectors are fully seated, undamaged, and that the pins are in the correct position.

  4. Inspect the PTO switch wiring for shorts to ground, shorts to power, or open circuits.

Repair steps

  1. Document and clear codes

Make a note of all active error codes, clear them, and test the system for normal operation to see if the fault returns.

  2. Inspect physical connections

If the fault is still present, inspect all TCU and ACM connectors for physical damage, moisture, or loose pins.

  3. Test wiring harness

Inspect the wiring harness between the PTO keypad/switch and the ACM for excessive resistance, bent, spread, corroded, or loose terminals.

  4. Verify configuration

Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible diagnostic tool (like Jaltest) to check the system parameter configuration. Ensure the PTO keypad is configured correctly for the tractor's specific installed options.

  5. Replace components

If the configuration is correct and the wiring is intact, the issue is likely an internal failure. Replace the faulty PTO switch/keypad or the Armrest Control Module (ACM).
