Case IH 517826-02 - ACM – ACM: Auto mechanical front drive switch circuit fault
Issue description
The system has detected an electrical circuit malfunction—such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to power—in the switch that controls the automatic Mechanical Front Drive (Auto MFD / 4WD).
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum 400 AFS Connect
- Steiger AFS Connect
- Maxxum
- Puma
Check the cause
Inspect the Auto MFD switch on the armrest console for physical damage, sticking, or liquid intrusion
Inspect the wiring harness running between the Auto MFD switch and the Armrest Control Module (ACM) for chafing, pinched wires, or breaks
Disconnect the switch and check the connector pins for corrosion, bent pins, or loose connections
Verify if there are any blown fuses related to the armrest controls or the MFD system (a low voltage supply to the armrest can sometimes trigger switch faults)
Use a multimeter to test the switch for proper electrical continuity when toggled
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts or accidental module damage.
Access the Switch
Remove the necessary trim panels or the armrest console cover to access the underside of the MFD switches.
Disconnect and Remove
Unplug the electrical connector from the Auto MFD switch and pop the switch out of its mounting slot.
Test or Replace
If your multimeter continuity test confirms the switch is internally faulty (open or shorted), install the replacement switch.
Harness Repair (If Applicable)
If the switch tests good, perform a continuity and short-to-ground test on the wiring harness back to the ACM. Repair any damaged wires or replace the harness section if a fault is found.
Reassembly
Plug the connector into the new switch, snap it back into the armrest, and reinstall the console trim.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use a diagnostic tool or the tractor's display to clear the inactive fault codes. Test the Auto MFD function to ensure the code does not return.
