Case IH 517959-06 - DEC – Transmission Controller: Transmission A2 clutch solenoid electrical circuit fault current above normal

The controller is detecting that the electrical circuit for the A2 clutch solenoid is drawing more amperage than expected, which is almost always caused by a short circuit to ground in the wiring harness or a shorted internal solenoid coil.

   Check the wire routed between the A2 clutch solenoid and the transmission controller for areas where the wire insulation may have rubbed through, causing a short to ground.

   Use a multimeter to verify if the circuit is open, shorted to ground, or has lost its power supply.

   Verify that power is available from the neutral latch relay or the dedicated solenoid power wire.

   Test the A2 clutch solenoid coil itself to see if the internal coil is shorted.

   Check the electrical connections at the solenoid and the controller for moisture, debris, or corrosion.

   Safety First

   Relieve all hydraulic pressure in the system and disconnect the machine's battery before beginning work.

   Access the Valve Body

   Locate the transmission control manifold/valve body where the A2 clutch solenoid is mounted.

   Disconnect and Isolate

   Unplug the electrical harness from the A2 solenoid.

   Test/Replace the Solenoid

   If the solenoid coil is shorted (failed resistance test), unbolt the solenoid from the valve body. Clean the mounting surface thoroughly to prevent contamination. Install the replacement solenoid.

   Repair Wiring

   If the solenoid tests good, trace the wiring harness back to the transmission controller. Repair or replace any sections of the wire that are shorting to the machine's chassis/ground.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the weather seal is intact to keep moisture out.

   Calibration

   Reconnect the battery, clear the stored fault codes, and perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure (often required after replacing a clutch solenoid or resolving a transmission fault).
