Case IH 517960-13 - DEC – TCU (Transmission Control Unit): Transmission A1 clutch solenoid Out of Calibration
Issue description
The Transmission Electronic Control Module has detected that the engagement characteristics (fill time, pressure, or current draw) for the A1 clutch solenoid no longer match the stored calibration values.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum
- Steiger
- Puma
- Maxxum
Check the cause
Check transmission hydraulic fluid temperature (must be warmed up to between 60 °C and 105 °C / 140 °F+ for optimum calibration)
Perform safety setup by parking the machine in an open area on a flat surface and engaging the parking brake
Ensure the area around the machine is clear of obstacles, as the machine could move automatically during the dynamic calibration process
Repair steps
Access CONFIG MENU
Turn the key switch to the ON position. Within ten seconds, press and hold the Enter key on the keypad to bring up the CONFIG MENU.
Select TCU
Use the down arrow key to highlight TCU in the menu list, then press Enter.
Access TRANS VIEW
Scroll down until the ETC MENU screen displays and press Enter to access the transmission sub-menus (TRANS VIEW).
Access TRANS SETUP
Scroll to the TRANS SETUP screen and press Enter.
Select Clutch Calibration
Select the Cltch Cal (clutch calibration) screen and press Enter.
Verify Temperature
The display will show Oil Deg (current transmission fluid temperature). If the temperature is within the 60 - 105 °C range, press Enter to begin.
Select Clutch
The system will prompt you to select the specific clutch (e.g., F1, R1, or A1) or will run through them sequentially.
Run Calibration
The tractor will automatically shift and adjust solenoid valve openings until it finds the right calibration. It will output calibration numbers followed by an asterisk when successful.
Save Values and Verify
Once the display reads trans cal complete, exit the menu and shut off the engine to save the values. If the calibration fails or errors out repeatedly on the A1 clutch, the A1 transmission solenoid valve is likely sticking or has failed electrically and must be replaced.
