517961-00 - DEC

Case IH 517961-00 - DEC – DEC: Transmission A3 clutch solenoid maximum calibration current limit exceeded

Issue description

During a transmission calibration routine, the electronic controller sends a varying electrical current to the A3 clutch solenoid to determine its engagement threshold. This fault indicates that the current required to achieve the expected clutch engagement (or the current drawn by the solenoid circuit) exceeded the maximum allowable limit programmed into the controller's software.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness between the DEC and the A3 clutch solenoid for shorts to ground or shorts to power, which could cause an abnormally high current draw.

  2. Measure the internal resistance (Ohms) of the A3 clutch solenoid using a multimeter to see if the coil has degraded or shorted internally.

  3. Ensure there is no mechanical binding in the A3 clutch pack or hydraulic blockage in the valve body that would force the controller to command maximum current to achieve engagement during calibration.

Repair steps

  1. Repair or replace

Replace the faulty A3 clutch solenoid or repair the damaged wiring harness.

  2. Calibrate

Re-run the transmission calibration routine via the tractor's display monitor or dealer diagnostic tool.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Transmission A3 Clutch Proportional Solenoid / Valve

Solenoids are highly specific to the transmission valve body. You will need to look up the exact part number using the machine's PIN/Serial Number in the official CNH EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog) under the "Transmission Control Valves" or "Powershift Valve Body" section.
