Case IH 517962-03 - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Transmission low clutch solenoid electrical circuit fault

The system has detected that the low clutch solenoid circuit is shorted to a high power source (typically +12 Volts). The controller is sensing current on the circuit while the driver (the command to engage the clutch) is turned off.

   Verify if the transmission fault code is currently active or stored in the history.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the Transmission Controller and the Low Clutch Solenoid for chafed wires, melted insulation, or areas where the signal wire might be shorting to a +12V power wire.

   Disconnect the low clutch solenoid connector (e.g., Connector No. 36). Turn the key ON and use a multimeter to check the signal wire for +12V when the clutch is commanded OFF. If voltage is present, the harness is shorted to power.

   Measure the resistance across the pins of the low clutch solenoid coil to verify it is not internally shorted.

   Preparation

   Safely park the tractor, turn off the engine, relieve hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the battery.

   Locate the Valve Block

   Locate the range transmission powershift valve manifold. This is typically mounted on top of or on the side of the range transmission.

   Identify the Solenoid

   Locate the specific Low Clutch Solenoid on the manifold (refer to the machine's specific electrical schematic for connector ID, such as Connector 36).

   Harness Repair

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a short to power in the wiring, repair or replace the damaged section of the harness.

   Solenoid Replacement

   If the solenoid itself has failed internally: Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the retaining nut/fastener and slide the coil off the cartridge, or unscrew the entire solenoid cartridge valve from the manifold block. Install the new solenoid valve/coil. Ensure you replace the O-rings to prevent hydraulic leaks.

   Reassembly & Calibration

   Reconnect the electrical connector and the battery. Clear the fault codes from the TRANS controller. Finally, perform a transmission clutch calibration (via the H-Menu or electronic service tool) to ensure the new low clutch solenoid quick-fill parameters are properly learned by the controller.
