Case IH 517962-04 - DEC – DEC: Transmission Low Clutch Solenoid Circuit Fault

Issue description

The system has detected that the voltage in the Transmission Low Clutch Solenoid circuit is out of range, indicating a short circuit to the battery or an open/short to ground. The controller detects this abnormal current/voltage when the driver is off or when attempting to engage the clutch.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum Series Tractors
  • Magnum 235-340 Series 4
  • MX Series Magnum
  • MX210

Check the cause

  1. Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission and identify the Low Clutch Solenoid.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the Low Clutch Solenoid and inspect for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or moisture.

  3. Use a multimeter to check the wiring harness between the solenoid connector and the DEC module for continuity, short to ground, and short to power (+12V).

  4. Measure the resistance across the pins of the Low Clutch Solenoid to check for an internal short or open circuit (infinite resistance).

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Access the Valve Block

Clean the area around the transmission control valve block thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Unplug the wiring harness connector from the Low Clutch Solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

Remove the retaining nut or mounting bolts holding the solenoid coil/valve cartridge in place. Carefully pull the solenoid cartridge out of the transmission valve body.

  5. Install the New Part

Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission hydraulic fluid. Insert the new solenoid into the valve block and torque the retaining fastener to OEM specifications.

  6. Reconnect and Reassemble

Reconnect the electrical harness to the new solenoid. Reconnect the tractor's battery.

  7. Calibration

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or use the tractor's onboard H-Menu diagnostic screen to clear the inactive 517962-04 fault code. You must then perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure so the DEC can learn the fill times and engagement characteristics of the new low clutch solenoid.
