Case IH 517962-05 - DEC – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Transmission low clutch solenoid electrical circuit fault current below normal
Issue description
The control module is detecting an abnormally low electrical current draw from the low clutch solenoid circuit, indicating an open circuit. Electrical power is not completing the path through the solenoid coil, which prevents the low clutch pack from engaging.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the Low Clutch Solenoid for chafing, breaks, or rodent damage.
Disconnect the plug at the low clutch solenoid and check for pushed-back pins, moisture, or heavy corrosion inside the connector.
Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the two pins of the solenoid coil. If the reading is 'OL' (infinite resistance), the internal coil is broken (open).
If the solenoid tests within normal resistance specs, test the wiring harness for continuity between the transmission controller pinout and the solenoid connector to find the break in the wire.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the Solenoid
Clean the area around the transmission valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Identify the specific Low Clutch Solenoid using your model's hydraulic schematic.
Removal
Depress the locking tab and unplug the electrical connector from the solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or bolt at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the electromagnetic coil off the valve cartridge. (Note: If the cartridge valve itself is leaking or sticking, you may need to unthread the entire cartridge from the manifold block. Have a catch pan ready for hydraulic fluid).
Installation
Slide the new solenoid coil onto the cartridge stem (or thread in the new complete cartridge assembly and torque to OEM specs). Install and tighten the retaining nut. Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
Calibration
Reconnect the battery and clear the fault codes via the diagnostic menu. Crucial Step: You must perform a dynamic transmission clutch calibration procedure. The ECM needs to learn the electrical characteristics and fill-times of the new solenoid to ensure smooth shifting and prevent clutch slippage.
