Case IH 517962-17 - DEC – DEC: Transmission low clutch solenoid - valid data - below normal range (least severe)

The controller has detected that the electrical current required to actuate the low clutch solenoid during the calibration process or normal operation is outside the specified minimum parameters, indicating a failing solenoid coil, a wiring issue, or a hydraulic blockage preventing proper valve stroke.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector (Connector No. 36) at the Low Clutch Solenoid for corrosion, backed-out pins, or chafing.

   Measure the resistance of the low clutch solenoid coil using a multimeter (typically 7-14 ohms); an open circuit or dead short indicates a failed coil.

   Check for accompanying fault codes such as 517962-13 (not calibrated) or 517962-04 (voltage below normal/short to ground).

   Ensure the transmission hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and filters are clean, as dirty fluid can cause the solenoid spool valve to stick.

   Warm the tractor to operating temperature and attempt to run the transmission clutch calibration procedure again via the AFS display.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Access the transmission powershift valve manifold (usually located on top or on the side of the range transmission housing). Identify the Low Clutch Solenoid.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the Low Clutch Solenoid. Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the transmission valve body. Remove the retaining nut or bolt securing the solenoid cartridge to the manifold. Carefully pull the solenoid cartridge out of the valve body.

   Installation

   Inspect the bore for any debris or scoring. Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid cartridge with clean Case IH Hy-Tran transmission fluid. Insert the new solenoid into the valve body, ensuring it seats fully. Install and tighten the retaining fastener to the OEM torque specification. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Post-Repair Calibration

   Start the tractor, bring the transmission fluid up to operating temperature, and perform a full transmission clutch calibration via the in-cab monitor to teach the DEC the fill times and current limits of the new solenoid.
