Case IH 518036-14 - BCM – BCM: Rotating beacon switch - invalid input voltage

This indicates an electrical circuit issue where the control module is receiving a voltage signal from the rotating beacon switch that falls outside the expected or valid operating range. This is typically caused by a short to ground, a short to power, an open circuit in the wiring harness, or internal failure of the switch itself.

   Inspect the rotating beacon switch on the cab control panel for physical damage, sticking, or liquid intrusion.

   Remove the panel to access the back of the switch. Disconnect the harness and inspect the pins for corrosion, bent terminals, or loose connections.

   Using a multimeter, check the input voltage at the switch connector with the key in the ON position to verify if the supply voltage is present and within the standard 12V system range.

   Test the switch itself for proper continuity across its terminals in both the ON and OFF positions.

   Pin out the wiring harness between the beacon switch connector and the BCM to check for high resistance (open circuit), shorts to ground, or shorts to battery power.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor ignition and engage the master battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

   Access the Switch

   Carefully pry up or unscrew the cab interior trim/control panel where the rotating beacon switch is housed.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the back of the faulty beacon switch.

   Remove the Switch

   Depress the retention tabs on the sides of the rocker switch body and push it out through the front of the control panel.

   Wiring Repair (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a damaged wire between the switch and the BCM, splice and repair the wire using heat-shrink connectors, or replace the damaged harness section.

   Install New Part

   Push the new OEM rotating beacon switch into the panel until the retention tabs click into place.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness back into the switch and reinstall the control panel trim.

   Test and Clear

   Turn the master disconnect switch back on. Turn the ignition key to the RUN position, test the beacon light operation, and use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the AFS Pro display to clear the inactive 518036-14 fault code.
