Issue description

The sensor responsible for monitoring the parking brake release pressure is sending a voltage signal that is higher than the maximum valid operating threshold. The system recognizes the data format as valid, but the extreme value indicates a severe condition, which could mean a failing sensor, a short to a high-voltage source, or an actual hydraulic overpressure situation in the park brake circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to view live data for the park brake pressure sensor with the engine off, and then with the park brake engaged and disengaged

  2. Verify that the supply voltage at the sensor connector is exactly 5V (requires a constant 5V reference power supply from the controller)

  3. Inspect the sensor's electrical connector (C-185) for corrosion, backed-out pins, or moisture, and check the signal wire for a short-to-power condition

  4. Verify the actual regulated hydraulic pressure in the park brake circuit to ensure the sensor isn't accurately reporting a mechanical overpressure issue

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

    Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park brake manually, turn off the engine, and remove the key.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the park brake pressure sensor, which is typically threaded into the control pressure manifold block associated with the transmission/drivetrain hydraulics.

  3. Disconnect the Harness

    Carefully unplug the 3-cavity electrical connector from the sensor.

  4. Remove the Sensor

    Place a catch pan underneath to catch any residual hydraulic oil. Unthread the faulty park brake pressure sensor from the manifold.

  5. Install the New Sensor

    Lubricate the new sensor's O-ring seal with clean hydraulic oil. Thread the new sensor into the manifold and tighten to OEM torque specifications.

  6. Reconnect and Clear Codes

    Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn the key on, connect the diagnostic tool, and clear the 518083-00 fault code.

  7. Functional Test

    Start the machine and cycle the park brake switch several times. Monitor the live data to ensure the sensor voltage remains within the normal operating range and verify the fault code does not return.
