Case IH 518107-00 - BCM – BCM: Work lamp #3 - too many loads or faulty load
Issue description
The module monitoring the lighting circuits has detected an excessive current draw on the circuit dedicated to Work Lamp #3. This condition is typically caused by a short circuit, a defective lamp assembly (internal short), or unauthorized aftermarket lights/accessories being spliced into the same circuit, exceeding the maximum amperage threshold.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Optum AFS Connect
- Steiger AFS Connect
- Quadtrac AFS Connect
Check the cause
Visually inspect Work Lamp #3 for physical damage, cracked lenses, or water ingress, which commonly causes internal shorting.
Check the wiring harness leading to Work Lamp #3 to ensure no aftermarket lights or additional electrical loads have been spliced into the circuit.
Inspect the wiring harness running from the BCM to the lamp for chafing, pinched wires, or exposed copper shorting to the tractor's chassis/ground.
Disconnect Work Lamp #3 and cycle the key. Check if the fault code changes to an open circuit code (such as 518107-05). If it changes, the fault is isolated to the lamp assembly. If the code remains, the short is in the wiring harness or the BCM.
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor, lower any implements, and disconnect the battery.
This prevents electrical arcing.
Locate Work Lamp #3 on the cab or fender.
Refer to the operator's manual for the exact numbering sequence of the 360-degree lighting package.
Disconnect the electrical connector at the lamp and inspect the terminals.
Look for corrosion, water damage, or melted pins caused by excessive heat/current.
Remove any unauthorized aftermarket loads spliced into the circuit, if present.
Restore the factory wiring.
Replace the Work Lamp #3 assembly if the diagnostic checks isolated the fault to the lamp.
Remove the mounting hardware and replace the assembly.
Repair or replace the damaged wiring harness.
Repair the chafed or shorted section using proper automotive wire splicing techniques (solder and heat shrink), or replace the affected harness pigtail.
Reconnect the battery and turn on the ignition.
Clear the BCM fault codes.
Use the tractor's AFS Pro 1200 display or a dealer diagnostic service tool.
Activate the work lights to verify proper operation.
Ensure the 518107-00 code does not return.
