518107-05 - BCM

Case IH 518107-05 - BCM – BCM: Work lamp #3 - open circuit

Issue description

The system has detected an open circuit (Failure Mode Indicator 05) on the circuit responsible for Work Lamp #3. This means there is a break in the electrical path preventing current from flowing. Common causes include a burnt-out bulb/LED, a disconnected or corroded plug, or a severed wire in the harness between the control module and the lamp.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Steiger AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Locate Work Lamp #3 on the tractor cab/fender. Inspect the lamp housing for physical damage or a burnt-out LED/halogen bulb.

  2. Disconnect the wiring harness at Work Lamp #3. Inspect the pins inside the connector for corrosion, moisture intrusion, or backed-out terminals.

  3. Turn the tractor key to the ON position and activate the work lamp switch. Use a multimeter to check for 12V power at the harness-side connector.

  4. Verify that the ground wire at the lamp connector has continuity to the chassis ground.

  5. If there is no power or ground at the lamp, trace the wiring harness back to the BCM. Look for pinch points, chafing, or broken wires, particularly where the harness routes near cab hinges or fenders.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and engage the battery master disconnect switch before performing electrical repairs.

  2. Replace the Lamp (If Faulty)

If the wiring has power and ground but the lamp does not illuminate, the internal circuitry of the lamp is open. Remove the mounting hardware, disconnect the pigtail, and install a replacement work lamp.

  3. Repair the Wiring (If Faulty)

If a break is found in the harness, cut out the damaged section of wire. Splice in a new section of wire using weather-sealed (heat-shrink) crimp connectors to prevent future moisture ingress.

  4. Replace the Connector (If Faulty)

If the plug at the lamp is heavily corroded or melted, cut off the old connector and wire in a replacement pigtail connector.

  5. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the key ON, and test the work lamp switch. Use the AFS Pro display or an electronic service tool to clear the inactive 518107-05 fault code from the BCM.
