Case IH 518109-00 - BCM – BCM: Work lamp #12 - too many loads or faulty load

Issue description

The system detects too many loads or a faulty load on the Work lamp #12 circuit, indicating a current draw higher than the safe ampacity level or a short circuit.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the Work Lamp #12 circuit to see if any unauthorized aftermarket lights or accessories have been added, which would exceed the circuit's safe load limit.

  2. Use the machine's wiring diagram to test the work lamp wiring harness for shorts to ground or open circuits.

  3. Check the load switch to verify that the load status changes correctly when the switch position is toggled.

  4. Inspect the specific fuses and relays associated with the work lamp control unit.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical arcing.

  2. Remove Excess Loads

If multiple appliances or lamps have been wired into the Work Lamp #12 circuit, remove them to bring the current draw back below the circuit's maximum ampacity.

  3. Repair Wiring

If harness testing revealed a short circuit or open wire, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.

  4. Replace Faulty Components

If the load switch fails the status change test, replace the load switch. If the work lamp itself has an internal short, replace the lamp assembly.

  5. Clear and Retest

Reconnect the battery, clear the fault code from the BCM, and turn on the work lamps to verify the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(5)
  • Work Lamp Assembly

Halogen or LED, depending on OEM fitment

  • Load Switch / Relay

  • Wiring Harness / Connectors

    e.g., butt connectors, shrink tubing

  • Fuses

e.g., 10A, 15A, or 20A depending on the specific work lamp circuit rating

  • Body Control Module (BCM)

Only if the internal circuit driver has been permanently damaged by the overload
