Case IH 518296-02 - VCM – VCM: Steering valve controller internal fault

The Vehicle Control Module has detected an internal hardware or software failure within the steering valve controller. This can be triggered by EEPROM write failure, coil supply switch state synchronization failure, software interpolation errors, or internal flow command/spool position mismatch.

   Perform a hydraulic pressure test to verify flow is available at the correct input pressure (steering relief valve pressure should be approximately 1500 psi).

   Check hydraulic fluid level and inspect the hydraulic system and MCV valve for metal shavings or debris that could jam the steering valve.

   Inspect the wiring harness for the Steering Valve Controller for open circuits, shorts to ground, or CAN communication timeouts between the controller and wheel angle sensor.

   Verify the software version of the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) and Steering Redundant Controller (SRC); updating to version 2.02 may resolve internal logic errors.

   Relieve hydraulic pressure

   Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic system pressure before servicing the steering components.

   Clean and inspect steering components

   Remove the steering control valve/motor. If the system had a previous hydraulic pump failure, thoroughly flush the lines to ensure no metal shavings are trapped in the steering valve.

   Replace steering motor seals

   If the valve is leaking but electronically sound, rebuild the steering motor using an upper seal kit.

   Replace steering valve controller

   If the internal fault is electronic (EEPROM failure or coil supply switch failure), disconnect the CAN harness, unbolt the controller from the hydraulic steering block, and install a new steering valve controller unit.

   Perform steering calibration

   After installing a new steering valve controller, perform a steering calibration procedure via the VCM/display to sync with the wheel angle sensor and clear the 'Sensor missing plausibility' fault.
